Protect Your Finances – Tips to Prevent Banking Fraud
At Citizens National Bank we are committed to ensuring your financial security. While we implement many security measures to protect you and your accounts, there are proactive steps you can take to further protect your information and prevent fraud:
Monitor Accounts: It’s important to monitor your accounts regularly for suspicious activity by:
- Checking your mobile app regularly
- Setting up account alerts
- And reviewing your E-statements
Suspicious activity can include:
- Unknown recurring payments
- Large withdrawals
- Unknown credit/debit card activity
Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice suspicious activity on your account or on your bank statements, immediately contact the Customer Care Center. They will help you identify suspicious activity, shut down stolen cards, and help you prevent fraudulent activity in the future. You can also shut off your card and report it as lost/stolen within your CNB mobile banking app. Never hesitate to contact us if you believe there may be fraud on your account. Even if you are unsure whether there is fraud or not, it is best to take preventive action now rather than later.
Strong Passwords: Using strong passwords is a great way to help protect your account from people who may try to guess your login credentials to gain access to it. A strong password should contain a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. To help prevent people guessing a password do not use the same password for other things, and avoid using: birthdates, years, pet’s names, or family members’ names.
Two-Factor Authentication: Along with using a strong password, you should enable two-factor or multi-factor authentication. To enroll in two-factor authentication login to the CNB Mobile Banking app, navigate to more and click Manage Two-Factor Authentication under settings. Once you have done this you can add your phone number and how you want to receive your secure code, call, or text. To learn more about two-factor authentication, click here.
