Phishing Scams Continue

Always verify before changing bank information!

Businesses continue to be targeted by email scams in order to try to get them to send money to fraudulent accounts. Citizens National Bank has seen an increase in customers receiving email instructions from vendors or customers requesting changes in where to send invoice payments. These emails are coming from legitimate email addresses that have been compromised.

If you receive an email requesting changes to where you send funds, be wary!

The smartest course of action is to call the person directly that you normally deal with and verify that they truly sent the email requesting the change.

Many of these fraudulent requests are becoming more persistent in requesting funds be sent right away, and may even threaten late charges or other tactics to create a sense of urgency.

Email can be a great form of communication, but when in doubt, it’s always best to speak to someone in person or over the phone to ensure requested changes are legitimate.
